toyota hybrid battery maintenance in bellevue washington

Toyota Hybrid Battery Maintenance

If you've just bought a new hybrid, you now have two motors to look after – the combustion engine and the battery pack – and you'll need to learn a few new maintenance procedures. Caring for your gas-powered engine is much the same as with any other traditional car, but the battery pack is a different story. The following Toyota hybrid battery maintenance guidelines will ensure that your hybrid's battery motor lasts as long as possible in great shape. more Avoid Depleting Your Battery When a hybrid's battery fully discharges and sits empty, it begins to wear down and lose capacity. You can avoid this and keep your battery strong by always keeping it at 20 percent charged or more. Plan your daily drives in advance with this minimum charge in mind to ensure that you don't unintentionally allow your battery charge to fall too low. Use Your Car and Battery Frequently Your car's battery will slowly deplete when sitting unused, which will eventually empty it and damage the battery. Even when properly charged, too much idleness causes wear and tear. Similarly to the muscles in our bodies, neglecting to use your battery causes it to weaken while regular exercise keeps it strong. With this in mind, try to drive your hybrid (using the battery motor) at least once a week. Don't Fully Charge Your Battery, Either Electric battery packs also suffer and wear down faster when fully charged. It's therefore best to avoid charging to 100 percent. Instead, charge to 80 percent at most; you may be able to use a special limiter function in your car to prevent the battery from charging more than this. Avoid Fast-Charging Stations If vehicle longevity is a priority for you, the healthiest kind of charging for hybrid batteries is sedate 120 or 240-volt charging. Fast-charging stations are useful on occasion, but shouldn't become the norm. Such rapid charges strain the battery, shortening its lifespan. Again, planning your trips in advance should help you to avoid the need for fast charging. Protect Your Battery From Extreme Temperatures Both extreme heat and cold cause a battery to deteriorate faster, lessening its lifespan and capacity. The optimal temperature range for these batteries is typically between 59 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Whenever the temperature climbs above or falls below this range, keep your vehicle protected by parking under shade or indoors, and keep your battery's cooling system well-maintained at all times. Visit Toyota of Bellevue in Bellevue, WA, today to have specialist technicians take care of your hybrid. 3 Signs You Need Radiator Service

Your car's radiator is a vital part of your Toyota's cooling system. Your engine generates vast amounts of heat, and the radiator acts as a heat exchange where the heat is removed to prevent engine damage. Over time, the radiator can become worn or damaged, and the cooling system will falter. As your Toyota dealer, we want to tell you a few signs you need to visit us for a radiator service. more Leaking Coolant Coolant is a 50:50 mixture of water and antifreeze. It's pumped through your engine at high speed, absorbing heat from the hot components as it moves. The heat is transported to your radiator, where the coolant enters rows of horizontal metal tubes. Air flows in through the radiator grille and over the tubes, removing the heat so the coolant can circulate again. The cooling system operates under high pressure, and worn seals can fail, allowing coolant to escape. As your engine loses coolant, the temperature will rise as the remaining coolant slows down. A coolant leak is easily identifiable, as this liquid is brightly colored pink, orange, blue, or green. If you find a leak, call us ASAP so our technicians can repair it and protect your engine from damage. Failed Water Pump The water pump is responsible for pumping coolant through your engine. It varies its speed as needed, speeding up when your engine is too hot and slowing down when the temperature drops. Like any pumping mechanism, the water pump can fail and result in engine damage if it's not promptly replaced. If your engine temperature rises for no obvious reason and there's no sign of a leak, the pump may have failed. Coolant will still be released, but it won't be able to move, and the engine will start to overheat. We'll examine the pump and replace it if it's failed, and your engine temperature will return to normal. Damaged Radiator Hoses The radiator is connected to the cooling system by two thick rubber hoses. The hoses are specially designed to carry coolant at temperatures of 300 F or more and do this repeatedly. As time passes, even this tough rubber will lose its flexibility and crack. Cracks in a hose will eventually leak to a leak, and your engine temperature will climb. Our technicians will examine the hoses and swiftly install new ones, if needed, to fix this problem. Don't risk an overheated engine. Contact our service department today at Michael's Toyota of Bellevue in Bellevue, WA.

4 Off-Road Capabilities of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma

If you're looking for a truck with a refined ride quality and a talent for tackling tough terrain, then the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is exactly what you're looking for. The Tacoma has a wide range of trims available, but three were designed specifically with off-roading in mind. more 1. Providing Plenty of Traction While you're out on the trail, you need plenty of traction to keep you safe. All versions of the Tacoma are designed to limit slipping and boost traction, but the off-road models focus on this the most. The three models focused on off-roading, which are the TRD Pro, TRD Off-Road, and the Trailhunter, have an electronically controlled locking rear differential. This ensures both back wheels move at the same speed as each other to help you get over obstacles and have lots of grip on the ground. With this, you'll have more grip in low-traction conditions than you would in a vehicle without this feature. 2. Tackling All Terrains The tires affect how well the Tacoma can handle the trails. The off-road models have all-terrain tires, so the truck is set up for driving on difficult surfaces. Along with that, Multi-Terrain Select is standard on the off-roading focused trims. Multi-Terrain Select works alongside Downhill Assist Control and Crawl Control to provide the most traction and stability possible. You select what kind of terrain you're driving on, and that lets your vehicle know to adjust the traction control and throttle accordingly. 3. Staying Safe From Getting Stuck If you get stuck in mud or deep sand, then it's not the end of the world. There are recovery hooks mounted to your truck so you can very easily be pulled to safety. Because your truck has designated recovery hooks, the vehicle shouldn't sustain any damage while being rescued. There are multiple recovery points around the vehicle, so it can be accessed from different angles based on the situation. 4. Hauling Hefty Loads You can also pull your friends to safety if needed, as your Tacoma can handle towing heavy loads. Two of the off-road models can tow 6,000 pounds, and the TRD Off-Road can handle up to 6,300 pounds. That's perfect if you want to take a pop-up camper on your adventures or pull a friend out of trouble. The other trims can also tow a decent amount of weight. For example, the base trim can handle 3,500 pounds. Interested in any of the Tacoma's trims? Come check them out at Toyota of Bellevue in Bellevue, WA.
